New Abattoir in the Yorkshire Dales
New abattoir built on a farm in the design/build sensitive Yorkshire Dales National Park, on the banks of the River Ure.
The unit was constructed, fitted out, certified complete by DEFRA, and commissioned in August ready to take advance of new stock arrivals from local farms. This was achieved notwithstanding problems arising from extreme Dales weather and unusually heavy flooding for the first few months of the year, compounded by unstable ground forcing a redesign under a section of the Slaughter Hall foundations, together with improvements to loading bay access, enlarged plant room and improved first floor access and offices.
Partly grant funded by DEFRA and Local Authority sources, transparency of accounting and unbiased assistance to the client's financial advisers was of paramount importance. The fact that the abattoir build was completed within the project cost plan budget was equally vital.
